Cry. Drink. Type. Cry. Drink. Type.
Some of you might be wondering, "what happened to Letters To Martha?" I'd like to know myself.
To make a long story short:
Word copy only + no disk/hard copy back up = bye bye!
It's all gone. Well, everything except what I had online and a short outline I did. Which is very strange for me, because I'm a worry wart when it comes to losing files and writing and always back up stuff compulsively. This was one time when "I'll do it tomorrow" came back to bite me in the ass.
Look for Martha in March, when I'll put the whole damn rewritten thing online in time for Martha's release. Oh, and those of you who came here via an interview I did for LTM...well, look around. There's plenty of other stuff here.
And people wonder why I like pen and paper and typewriters. Now back to drinking heavily...
The file is almost certainly not erased. Usually the worst that happens is the file's directory entry is erased. So it's probably on your hard drive somewhere, invisible. You will need a utility to retrieve it, one that lets you peek directly at the data on your hard drive. Norton probably makes one. Or professional data retrieval people can probably get it.
By now this info may be too late, but you probably have not written over all of the novel. Large chunks of it are almost certainly scattered around your hard drive.
